Biography

Jason Gonzalez is a tenor from Santa Barbara, California, who originally began singing at theater camp in order to overcome his shyness. Having recently received his Masters in Voice from the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University, he now resides in Baltimore, and frequently sings with the Washington Concert Opera and Wolf Trap Opera choruses. He recently completed his first season with Opera Saratoga, understudying the role of Ernesto in Don Pasquale, and singing in the world premier outreach opera, The Selfish Giant, with music by Clarisse Assad and libretto by Lila Palmer.  While pursuing his masters degree, Jason studied with baritone Randall Scarlata, and had the opportunity to sing the roles of Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Miles Zegner in Missy Mazzoli’s opera Proving Up, and Alfred in Die Fledermaus. In addition to his operatic work, Jason has had the privilege to step into contemporary concert repertoire, singing the tenor solo in This Mourning by award winning composer and Peabody faculty member, Joel Puckett.  He also holds a Bachelors of Music in both Music Theater and Voice Performance from Oklahoma City University.
